The National Cyber Command and the Ministry of Health announced this morning (Sunday) that over the weekend there was an increase in attempted attacks against hospitals and medical organizations.

The announcement emphasized that due to early assessments and a quick response by the center and teams in the field, the attempts were stopped and no damage was caused.

It was also emphasized that the disruptions at Hillel Yaffe Hospital are still ongoing.

According to the announcement, the work of the Cyber Center at the Ministry of Health and the National Cyber Directorate and other teams at Hillel Yaffe Hospital continues, with the aim of gradually and securely restoring the hospital's information systems to regular operation as soon as possible.

According to the announcement, "The Ministry of Health and the National Cyber Directorate have been carrying out numerous activities in recent days with entities in the health sector to further strengthen the level of protection, while identifying new vulnerabilities in the space that may be used for attacks and contacting entities to close them.".

Last week, a 'ransom' attack was carried out on the Hillel Yaffe Hospital in Hadera, and its motive is suspected to be economic and not security-related.

As a result, the hospital is operating on a reduced schedule, accepting only patients in need of urgent care. The attackers blocked and monitored administrative systems that provide access to medical records.

The cyber experts handling the attack are trying to recover some of the lost information.

According to data from Check Point, 1,400 attack attempts are made against various healthcare organizations every week, which is twice the global average.
