A 14-year-old girl was evacuated to Shaarei Tzedek early Monday morning after her health condition worsened due to severe coronavirus disease. The girl had no underlying illnesses and had not been vaccinated against the virus. She is hospitalized in the pediatric intensive care unit with severe pulmonary disease and pulmonary insufficiency. This is the second case in the last ten days of healthy teenagers reaching such a condition. "The girl is being treated with medication adapted for severe coronavirus disease and is on respiratory support," explained Dr. Jack Brown, director of the pediatric intensive care unit at Shaarei Tzedek Medical Center. "The image of the lungs indicates severe pulmonary insufficiency. We are focusing most of our efforts on stabilizing breathing and continuing to continuously monitor developments and prevent further rapid deterioration." Dr. Maskit Bar Meir, Director of the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Unit at Shaare Zedek Medical Center: "Since the outbreak of the pandemic, we have seen very few cases of significant respiratory illness in children. "This is another second case in ten days of severe respiratory illness that so far we have only seen in adults, with the need for non-invasive ventilation, in healthy young men without underlying diseases, and in both cases, they are not vaccinated.".
