The battle for credit: Who torpedoed the coalition's majority needed for the law to decree the 'military monitoring committees for religious girls'?

Last night, the coalition announced that it was withdrawing the law from the agenda, after the RPA announced that they would not support the law, and Ahmed Tibi from the Joint List, who was asked to abstain from the vote, also refused.

The office of United Torah Judaism chairman MK Moshe Gafni claimed this morning (Wednesday) that he is the one behind the trampling of the majority required for the law.

A statement from the bureau said: "In a joint activity that was blatantly silenced by Shas Chairman Rabbi Deri and Yehuda Party Chairman Rabbi Gafni, the coalition suffered another crushing failure tonight and did not achieve the majority needed for the Security Service Law, which was removed from the agenda. We will continue to work to overthrow this evil government.".

However, MK Yisrael Eichler already said last night that the law was torpedoed after his and MK Meir Porush's activities.

Under the headline "Victory for Haredi Judaism," the office of the Agudat Yisrael Knesset member announced: "The coalition removed from the agenda the law to establish military surveillance committees for religious girls, which passed last week in first reading - this after Foreign Affairs and Security Committee member MK Rabbi Israel Eichler and MK Rabbi Meir Porush, together with the Haredi MKs, succeeded in convincing the Ra'am and joint Knesset members to oppose the law, for religious reasons.

""After the coalition realized that there was no majority to pass the law, they were forced to shamefully remove it from the agenda for now.".

The MK office also mentioned: "Earlier this week, MK Rabbi Eichler and MK Rabbi Porush fought in the Foreign Affairs and Security Committee against the law, and managed to close the committee meeting without reaching any agreements. When the news of the law being removed from the Knesset voting agenda was announced, their Haredi representatives expressed satisfaction and enthusiasm for the victory in the important struggle against the decree of the military committees that monitor the level of religiosity of Israeli women in order to forcibly recruit them into the army. 'This is an important message against forced conscription into the army,' they said.
