The intelligence officer who was imprisoned in a military prison and died under circumstances prohibited from publication was not accused of espionage or treason, and was not in contact with a foreign agent. This was permitted for publication by the military court this evening (Thursday). The military court in Kirya granted the request of the officer's family and permitted the publication of these details. The officer was in serious condition in a military detention facility about two weeks ago, nine months after an indictment was filed against him - and died in a hospital. Yesterday, Haaretz reported that the officer was buried in a civilian grave and will not be recognized as an IDF martyr. An IDF spokesman explained that he was not granted a military burial, since he was discharged from service during his detention. The affair, which was hidden in the IDF for eight months until the officer's death last month, still remains confidential. The remaining details about the officer's death are prohibited from publication. Defense attorney Benny Kuznitz: "The officer's family condemns the malicious publications regarding their late son's case, publications that have no connection to reality. The accusations attributed to their late son have also never been proven, nor have his claims against the charges been examined yet. The family is now dealing with the circumstances of their son's tragic death and finding those responsible."
