The ceremony was also attended by Lt. Col. Maor Gabriel, who was the commander of the first battery that intercepted a rocket exactly a decade ago. At the beginning of the meeting, the Defense Minister held a status discussion on the new developments of Iron Dome and the deployment of the current array, followed by a discussion with the battalion's fighters and a toast to mark the tenth anniversary of the first interception. In his speech, Gantz alluded to the attack on the Iranian ship in the Red Sea. "We are preparing these days against different fronts - in the south, in the north, and also against threats that Iran poses to us, either directly or indirectly through its proxies in the Middle East." He added: "The State of Israel is the strongest country in the region and will remain so because of two things: because we have no choice and thanks to people like you, those who came before you and those who will come after you, who carry this burden so well and significantly. We have offensive systems that operate 24/7, 365 days a year and are ready to operate in any arena, against Any range and any dimension of action that the IDF will require." A senior American official told the New York Times last night that Israel had informed the United States that it was responsible for attacking the ship in the Red Sea. According to the official, Israel said the attack was "revenge for previous attacks" by Iran against Israeli vessels.
