Pfizer: Our vaccine effectively prevents severe illness and death in 97%

The vaccine is more effective in reality than in research: Pfizer and BioNTech, the companies that developed the coronavirus vaccine that has already vaccinated more than 5 million Israelis, announced today (Thursday) that, according to real data from vaccinees in Israel, their vaccine is 94% effective in preventing asymptomatic infection. In addition, the companies reported that data from Israel shows the effectiveness of 97% in preventing infection with symptoms, severe illness and death. This percentage of effectiveness is higher than that shown in the large study conducted by the company, before the approval of the vaccine - 95%. According to the analysis of the data, unvaccinated people were 44 times more likely to develop symptomatic corona, and 29 times more likely to die from corona disease, compared to those who received the vaccine. The data also shows that the vaccine is particularly effective against the British mutation - at a level of more than 80% of the samples tested. As for the South African mutation, there have been few cases of infection in Israel, which undermines the ability to assess the effectiveness of the vaccine against it. According to the Ministry of Health, over 5 million Israelis have been vaccinated with the first dose of the vaccine so far, and almost 4 million have already been vaccinated with the second dose. However, 151,300 people aged 50 and over, who are considered at risk for serious illness, have not yet been vaccinated.
