United Torah Judaism Chairman, MK Moshe Gafni, said this morning (Monday) at the beginning of the Finance Committee meeting that his party will not enter any coalition - without the override clause.

Gafni told of a conversation he had years ago with former Supreme Court President Prof. Aharon Barak. "We were at Tel Aviv University and he told me: You will be in the opposition and you need the court and you will need it. So I told him: An ultra-Orthodox person may come to court privately and receive relief. But as a public servant in the place of the state, and to this day, I do not remember a single case in which the Supreme Court granted us relief. We have never received relief from the Supreme Court." He added: "I have nothing to pin my hopes on. Either we are in the coalition or we are in the opposition, either we can pass legislation or we cannot pass legislation, we will gain nothing from the court." Gafni announced: "I say it clearly. United Torah Judaism will not be a partner in any coalition unless a supersession clause is passed. "We have demanded this all these years, unfortunately there were parties in the coalition that did not let it happen. This time we will put an end to it - and let everyone know it. There will be a clear separation between the legislative and judicial branches, there will be a ruling overriding the High Court of Justice." Gafni also said today: "The reason there is a culture war against the Haredi sector that adheres to the Ministry of Health's guidelines is only because we are going with Bibi. If we had hinted that we were not going with him, the attacks would have stopped.".
