Thousands are participating this morning (Sunday) in the funeral of the oldest yeshivot leader of our generation, the Gaon Rabbi Meshulam David Halevi Soloveitchik, zt"l, Rosh Yeshiva of Brisk, the last son of the Maran Rabbi of Brisk zt"l, who passed away this morning at the age of 99. Haredi? This is the prestigious educational institution that is willing to provide a subsistence scholarship and full funding. His funeral will leave his home on Eli HaCohen Street at the corner of Grossbard, near the Brisk Yeshiva, to Mount Hamunehot, where he will be buried next to his father, the late Rabbi Zacharias. The police have made preparations for thousands to attend the funeral. Police officers held talks with senior Haredi leaders in an attempt to reduce the number of participants and the funeral route, but it seems to have been unsuccessful. After the recitation of the Psalms, his eldest son, the Gaon Rabbi Yitzhak Zeev, was crowned as his successor at the head of the yeshiva. Those who gave eulogies at the yeshiva were his sons, the Gaon Rabbi Yitzhak Zeev and the Gaon Rabbi Asher, along with his son-in-law, the Gaon Rabbi Nehemiah Kaplan. His brother-in-law, Rav "Eada", the Gaon Rabbi Moshe Sternbuch, and his son-in-law, the Gaon Rabbi Baruch Dov Povarsky, Rosh Yeshiva of Ponevez, are expected to pay their respects at Har Hamenuchot. The Badatz Ha'Eada announced the opinion of the Gaon "Eada" Ha'Gir"t Weiss and the Rav "Eada" Ha'Gir"m Sternbuch to cancel the service until after the funeral procession. The Admor of the History of Aharon ordered all yeshivot and kollelim of the Hasidic community to participate in the funeral procession. The Gaon Rabbi Baruch Shmuel Ha-Cohen Deutsch, one of the leaders of the "Yerushalmi" faction, also ordered the abrachi kollelim and yeshivot students of the "Feleg" to participate in the funeral procession. The funeral is attended by rebbes, rabbis and Rosh Yeshiva heads who came to accompany the Rosh Yeshiva on his final journey. Even the Rebbe of Gur, who has not attended funerals since the outbreak of the pandemic, came to participate in the funeral procession, while in his vehicle.
