Heavy rain in the yard of Vizhnitz: This morning (Monday), the activist Rabbi Eliyahu Yitzhak Leibowitz, z"l, passed away suddenly, at the age of 73, when he suffered a cardiac arrest during morning prayers in the courtyard of his home.
The late, z"l, was one of the first residents of the Beit Vizhnitz Hasidism and was the head of the speakers everywhere, being a kind of overflowing Hasidism and Torah.
He has been a Maggid and Torah reciter for about fifty years on Daf Yomi at the Great Court in the Vizhnitz neighborhood.
The late Z"l was a member of the Supreme Committee of the Hasidim of Vizhnitz, and is remembered for his vigorous activity in saving the Vizhnitz house on Yom Kippur Eve 5762, when he was honored and called to the house of the Rebbe, the author of "Yeshuot Moshe" Zt"l, along with a distinguished delegation of Hasidim of Vizhnitz.
He was also one of the founders of the D'Viznitz Hasidic Seminary, which was the dream of the Rebbes of the Viznitz family, so that it would be an educational institution for girls in the Yiddish language.
A few years ago he fell ill and was in a serious condition, at which time people were already standing around his bed, but by the grace of God he emerged from the Valley of Shadow.
This morning, as mentioned, he suddenly collapsed with his tallit case and tefillin in his hands, and returned his soul to its creator.
He left behind a family and generations of pious and wholesome people who follow the path of their ancestors. His eldest son is Rabbi Yechiel Michal Leibowitz, one of the leading figures in the Vizhnitz family and the founder of the Yeshua Moshe synagogue on Yael Street in Bnei Brak.
His funeral will leave in the coming hours from the Grand Courthouse in Kiryat Vizhnitz to the Vizhnitz Life Center.
