""I requested the cabinet meeting for one purpose, and that is to close the skies," Netanyahu noted. "Since last night's meeting, the mutation has been spreading in many countries, and it is clear to us that we are at the beginning of a very rapid spread." He said, "We need to reduce the viral mass entering the country as much as possible, while we are currently examining in England what exactly this virus is, whether the vaccine is resistant to it, and other questions. To do this, I would like to replicate what we did in the first wave of the first coronavirus: close the skies as quickly as possible." Netanyahu proposed determining, similar to the decision made shortly after the outbreak of the coronavirus, that foreign citizens will not be allowed to enter Israel. Health Minister Edelstein also addressed the new mutation this morning: "Regarding returning Israelis, we will require isolation and testing for all those returning from all countries. We will put the matter on the cabinet's table." He added: "There is no evidence that the mutation is resistant to the vaccine. We are witnessing the fact that the infection rate has increased. In the Corona Cabinet, we will see what we as a government need to do to ensure that this strain does not reach Israel. We are concerned about the entry of people from these countries and other countries in the world.".
