Religious achievement: The conversion law, which was strongly opposed, did not pass in the summer session

הישג ליהדות התורנית. חוק הגיור כבר לא יעבור במושב הנוכחי. מושב הקיץ של הכנסת מסתיים היום, עם הישג נוסף לנציגות החרדית והדתית, שמנעו את חקיקת חוק הגיור במושב הנוכחי. את החוק יזם ח"כ אלעזר שטרן מהתנועה,  והוא נועד לדבריו לשפר את מערך הגיור שמקשה על המבקשים להתגייר. החוק עורר התנגדות עזה מצד הרבנים הראשיים וזקני רבני ישראל. שאף ערכו כינוס חרום מיוחד לפני כשבועיים, ובו הצהירו כי הרבנות לא תכיר בגיורים שיערכו לפי החוק החדש. גם רבני הבית היהודי התנגדו לחוק, כאשר גם הרב חיים דורקמן שוכנע להיאבק נגד החוק. ולכן מפלגת הביתה היהודי ניסתה כל העת למנוע אותו,  וטענה כי יש לה זכות וטו על חוקים שנוגעים לענייני דת, ואף איימה בפרישה מהקואליציה במידה והחוק יעבור.  As reported in Haredim10, Prime Minister Yosef sent a letter to Prime Minister Netanyahu about a week ago in which he expressed firm opposition to the conversion law, which he called "destructive." The letter stated: ""It goes without saying that this type of legislation has serious consequences without the consent of the Chief Rabbinate. Passing the aforementioned bill will create a situation of second-class Jews in the State of Israel and make the conversion process unacceptable to many communities. As a result, we as Jews who are commanded by the commandment to "love the stranger" may, God forbid, fail in the sin of "deceiving the stranger" when, when he comes to marry, he will encounter obstacles such as not recognizing his Judaism.".

In his letter, Rabbi Netanyahu asked to prevent the proposal from being raised and instead formulate a proposal that is agreed upon by the Chief Rabbinate.

Later, Rabbi Druckman tried to reach an agreement with MK Stern, but without success. The goal right now is to formulate a government decision that would be agreed upon by the Chief Rabbinate, a decision that would replace the need for a law.
