Permission to publish: A criminal attack was foiled at the entrance to a residential building in Petah Tikva.
The court today allowed publication that the Central District Central Unit (YAMR) arrested Yitzhak (Itzik) Sandrosi, a 27-year-old resident of Safed, about a month ago on June 25, 2014, after an undercover investigation, on suspicion of committing a series of serious offenses, including manufacturing weapons and attempting to cause injury with explosives. After a complex investigation, an indictment will be filed tomorrow against Sandrosi and another person for weapons and drug offenses.
The investigation was opened after, in early January of this year, a powerful, wirelessly activated explosive device was placed, primed and ready to be activated, at the entrance to a residential building on Yahalom Street in Petah Tikva. A technician who came to work in the building found the device hidden in a bag and called the police.
The investigation of the case was entrusted to the Investigations Division of the Chief of Police, Sharon, and the court issued a publication ban order at the request of the investigators. After carrying out complex investigative activities by the investigation team and the intelligence and criminal identification systems, suspicion arose of the involvement of Sendrosi and others in building the explosive device and planting it as part of a criminal conflict in the city.
Two days ago, after operational activity by the district units, Sandrosi was located in Bnei Brak, he was arrested and brought in for questioning, and his detention was extended.
In addition to Sendrosi, 3 additional suspects were arrested on suspicion of involvement in the affair, including Moshe Hadif, 24, from Bnei Brak.
Last Thursday, a prosecutor's statement was filed against Sandorsi and Hadif, and the Central District Attorney's Office intends to file an indictment against the two tomorrow for weapons and drug offenses, as well as a request to detain them until the end of the legal proceedings in their case.
Central District Commander Superintendent Bruno Stein, who in recent months has ordered an emphasis on the activities of special police forces in Petah Tikva, praised the Chief of Police and added, "The Israel Police recently uncovered a series of serious incidents in Petah Tikva and thwarted serious crime. The special police forces will continue their activities in the city."
Commander of the Anti-Terrorism Squad, Major General Yigal Ben Shalom, said, "This is another link in the chain of exposures of criminal incidents in the district and in the city of Petah Tikva, during which the anti-terrorism squad arrested a suspect in the construction of a powerful explosive device that could have harmed many innocent people."
