The Attorney General today (Friday) approved the opening of a criminal investigation against MK Hanin Zoabi Begin on suspicion of inciting violence and insulting a public servant, after police complaints were received against her. Following the approval, the Police Commissioner instructed the head of the Investigations and Intelligence Division to immediately launch a criminal investigation into the matter. By decision of the Head of the Investigations and Intelligence Division, the investigation will be conducted at Lahav 433. The investigation was opened after a report was received from a police officer at the Nazareth police station, according to which, when he had finished arguing at the city's Magistrate's Court in a hearing regarding suspects in disorderly conduct, and while he was standing with another police officer in a crowded courtroom, MK Hanin Zoabi, who was present, began to shout harsh insults at them and address those present in a manner that was suspected of insulting a public servant and inciting violence. The Northern District forwarded the materials to the command and security officials, and subsequently, the Police Commissioner instructed the head of the Investigations and Intelligence Division to immediately take all necessary steps to consider opening a criminal investigation against the Knesset member. After examining the authorized elements in the Investigations and Intelligence Division, the head of the division instructed that the material be transferred to the State Attorney's Office, while stating his position that there is room to open a criminal investigation.
