Lesson learned: Reserve soldiers refused to use the outdated APC model that was damaged earlier this week - and were released.
About 30 reservists, who were supposed to use the outdated M-13 armored personnel carrier, identical to the one that burned down in the disaster that occurred on the night between Saturday and Sunday, informed the battalion commander that they would refuse to board it, Channel 10 reports.
The reservists did not need to enter the Strip now, but only if the operation was expanded, but as mentioned, they informed the battalion commander that they were afraid of using an APC of this model, and that if they had to enter Gaza, they would refuse to do so inside the APC.
After that conversation, the reservists were released to their homes.
The problematic model is an American M-113 armored personnel carrier, which was manufactured in the 1960s and has been in use by the IDF ever since.
The IDF is still investigating why an outdated and insufficiently protected armored personnel carrier was brought into a dangerous firing zone, such as the battle zone in Shajaiyah, and got stuck in the middle of the Shajaiyah neighborhood, resulting in the deaths of 7 soldiers.
The IDF did not respond.
