It can be a respite from an overly large buffet in the hotel dining room on vacation to a more spiritual world, it can be a break from the excitement and stress of preparing for your son's bar mitzvah to something relaxing. Whatever you do, wherever you are, the page will be waiting for you as a stable anchor in life. And most of all, it will save you on empty days. After all, there are those. Well, even if your day wasn't the best, you won't end it feeling exhausted, there's no such thing as burning another day. You always take something from it with you. There's not a day that doesn't bring a page with it. Because of identity. Our public life is full of debates about what are called "matters of religion and state." This is a topic that is always on the agenda. And it is also on the personal agenda of each of us: washing hands, putting on tefillin, Shacharit prayer, educating children, Mincha and Arriv prayer, kashrut, Shabbat, holidays, fasts. I tell you honestly: without the Daf Yomi I wouldn't have opened a book. How do I know? Because I lived like that for years. With failed attempts at studying since my yeshiva days. Everything was too much for me, until the Daf came and focused me: it has a beginning, it has a middle, it has an end and, most importantly, it has a deadline. The biggest advantage of the Daf Yomi is that it is daily. He transforms the most uncommitted people into the greatest devotees, who never go a single day without setting aside times for Torah. Because of the inspiration. Regular study makes you a wiser and more humble person day by day. It may seem a bit contradictory: If I become more and more wise, how can I also become more and more humble? So first of all, Torah study has specific qualities. I don't understand how it works, but it works. Your prayer after good study will always be more intentional. Your patience for children will also increase. What's the connection, after all, it's intellect and it's emotion? Fact, this is reality. Anyone who engages in Torah for its own sake gains many things. But beyond the mystical effect of study, on a human level, the more you study, the less you actually know. How great and deep and broad the Torah is, and how much you need to study, repeat, listen, understand. It makes you a more aware and attentive person to yourself, the environment, and of course to the Torah.
