The passengers on board the flight between Los Angeles and Melbourne couldn't believe it was happening to them: the skylights, or in this case the ceiling of the plane, began to drip water and it seemed like the plane would fall apart in minutes.
Nicole Brown, who was on the plane, told Sky News that it was "the scariest thing I've ever experienced in my life. The only thing I could think about was that I was in a box over the Pacific Ocean filled with water and electricity.".
The panicked passengers feared that the plane's electricity would short out and the plane would plunge into the depths of the sea. However, the flight crew was quick to reassure the passengers and explained that it was just a technical malfunction of internal pipes.
But the water didn't stop flowing and it seemed like the plane would turn into a ship. "At first it was a light drizzle, as if someone had poured soda from above, but then it became more and more frequent, and the water filled the aisles. It was like a river flowing along the aisles," said one of the passengers.
The flight from the US to Australia is one of the longest in the world and takes over 15 hours. The plane's captain decided to abort the flight and retraced his steps to Los Angeles, where he landed safely.
