The Jerusalem Municipality is establishing a new administration that will work to reduce the shortage of classrooms in Haredi education and in the east of the city.
According to data published by the municipality, in Jerusalem there are significant gaps in classrooms in the Haredi sector and in the east of the city - gaps that currently amount to about 2,000 classrooms.
In light of this, the mayor decided to establish a new administration, which will lead the process of reducing classroom gaps in the city's Haredi, Arab, and general sectors. The administration will be operated through the Moriah municipal corporation.
The new administration will be responsible for the accelerated identification of suitable lands, the preparation and approval of programs, the planning and execution of buildings, and a significant increase in the scope of execution compared to the current scope.
Its tasks will include: refreshing and re-implementing, as needed, master plans for the education system in the various sectors, building a schedule for the planning and construction of educational institutions in the city, preparing a plan for the immediate implementation and utilization of existing areas, implementing creative search and location processes for available land for the subject, building creative solutions that will enable the private sector to participate in the effort, modern planning of the institutions while maximizing existing knowledge and experience in the field, finding alternative solutions and building effective, direct and stable work processes with the funding bodies: the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Finance, the various municipal departments, and more.
Mayor Nir Barkat said: "Reducing the gaps in classrooms across all sectors in Jerusalem is a central municipal task and we are constantly working to reduce the existing gaps. The establishment of the new administration through the Moriah Company will allow all work to be concentrated under one body, streamline processes and bring about the result that we all desire, more modern and standard classrooms for the children of Jerusalem.".
Doron Neuwirth, CEO of Moria, said: "Moria, as the implementation company of the Jerusalem Municipality, which mainly promotes infrastructure and transportation projects in the city, sees this project as a new challenge and a great opportunity to enter schools and bring to the field the advantages, knowledge, experience and success of the company's many projects. This project is added to the other areas that we have recently entered, such as urban renewal.".
The administration will operate project management offices in the sectoral division that currently exists in the Jerusalem Education Administration (MENAH), according to the division into Haredi, East Jerusalem, and general education.
In the coming days, the establishment of the new administration will be submitted for approval to the Moriah Company's board of directors.
