There seems to be no disagreement among the Israeli population regarding the severe punishment that should be meted out to the murderers of the 16-year-old boy from Shuafat, but Rabbi Elyakim Levanon, head of the yeshiva in Alon Moreh and rabbi of the Samaria Regional Council, also rules on the type of punishment that should be meted out to the criminals: death.
The rabbi justified the severe ruling with the commandment "and you shall put away evil from among you" - and said: "Unfortunately, it is becoming increasingly clear that Jews were the ones who committed the murder of the Arab boy. Jewish law shows no mercy when it comes to cruel murder. Both when it comes to the murder of Jewish boys and when it comes to the murder of an Arab boy.".
The rabbi added: "It is obligatory to sentence them to death, in order to fulfill: And to purge the evil from among you. The State of Israel, and its executive arm, the Israel Defense Forces and the security forces, are required and commanded to fight terror mercilessly, until it is defeated and removed from the world.".
This afternoon, it was announced that six suspects had been arrested for the murder of Arab boy Muhammad Abi Khedir.
Several of the murder suspects confessed today (Sunday) to the crime. First, one of the six confessed to the crime, incriminating his friends and leading to several other suspects confessing as well.
The Petah Tikva Magistrate's Court extended the detention of five of the murder suspects by eight days this evening. The detention of a sixth suspect was extended by five days.
