Will Gur Hasidim boycott the train line from Jerusalem? Kashrut expert, Rabbi Dov Landau, one of the Gur Hasidic rabbis, expressed his concern this morning (Wednesday), in a letter he published in the newspaper 'Hamodia', that it is prohibited to use the services of the high-speed train line from Jerusalem to Ben Gurion Airport - which was inaugurated on Chol Hamoed.
In his letter, titled 'Halachic Opinion,' Rabbi Landau writes that traveling on the line should be considered because passengers enjoy a Shabbat activity.
"Since the new train line from Jerusalem began operating these days, and since it was previously published that some of the infrastructure work for this train was, unfortunately, done on Shabbat, maliciously and openly by Jews and non-Jews, it is appropriate that the rabbis discuss and express their opinion on whether it is permissible, appropriate and proper for Sabbath-keepers to travel on this train and enjoy the Sabbath," writes Rabbi Landau.
The Rabbi adds and writes: "Of course, this opinion will have implications regarding the light rail in the Dan Bloc, for the operation of which work is also being done on Shabbat."
