A 23-year-old young man who threw stones on the Arava Road, near the Ketura Intersection, and almost caused a traffic accident, was arrested at noon by Eilat police.
He told the police officer who arrested him that he did this in order to get back to the air-conditioned police station, due to the heavy heat on the Arava Road, after he was questioned there in the morning, when he jumped over a fence into the predatory animal enclosure at the Hai-Bar site near Kibbutz Yotvata.
In the afternoon, numerous reports were received at the police headquarters in the Southern District from drivers traveling on the Arava Highway that a young man was throwing stones at the road and endangering traffic.
Eilat Regional Police vehicles went out to the intersection and spotted the suspect, who was familiar to them from an incident that occurred in the morning.
The police began immediately removing the obstacle from the road, in order to prevent danger to road users, after arresting the suspect - who claimed to the police: I want to get to the air-conditioned police station due to the intense heat in the Arava.
The suspect and the local commander crossed paths in the morning, after a report was received from the manager of the Hai-Bar compound, adjacent to Kibbutz Yotvata, about a person who was not allowed into the compound because he was unable to purchase an entrance ticket. The suspect, who appeared to have left the site, climbed over the perimeter fence of the site and entered the predatory animal enclosure there.
The manager of the place noticed the act, captured the intruder and removed him before he was harmed by the stray animals. The suspect was detained by the police officer and brought to the Eilat Regional Police. After his interrogation, he was released under restrictive conditions.
The suspect, who decided to leave the city immediately after the investigation, encountered the intense heat on the Arava Highway and chose a creative, but rather dangerous, way to return to an air-conditioned location – to the police station in Eilat. As mentioned, he began throwing stones towards the road, which fortunately ended without any injuries.
