Perez's last time in the White House • Receives the 'Congress Gold Medal''

Last diplomatic visit to the US:  In what may be his last official visit as president overseas, President Shimon Peres presented US President Barack Obama with a new and different initiative from its predecessors for the release of Jewish spy Jonathan Pollard. Peres met with Obama at the White House last night (Wednesday), and also discussed with him the Pollard issue, which has been a source of controversy between Israel and the United States for nearly 30 years. Peres put forward a new proposal for his release, which also aligns with the opinion of the Jewish spy's family. The president presented Obama with an outline of a new path that would lead to a request that would shorten Pollard's sentence and lead to a pardon through legal means. Obama, in response, did not promise Peres that Pollard would be released - but said that he would forward the request to the US Attorney General for consideration. During the conversation, Peres also raised the issue of the kidnapping of the three boys with Obama. In response, Obama said: "Our hearts go out to the families of the kidnapped boys and to the State of Israel. From the moment the kidnapping occurred, the United States has been coordinating with Israel. As part of his state visit to the United States, Peres will deliver a state speech this afternoon before the leadership of both houses of the United States Congress.  During the event, US Vice President Joe Biden will present the "Congress Gold Medal" to President Peres in a ceremonial ceremony.
