Candidates for the Second Authority Council: Family - Out, Press Line - In

Communications Minister Gilad Erdan submitted his list of candidates to the new Second Authority Council. Out of 24, 15 ultra-Orthodox members will be elected on the list: Yinon Falah - editor of the Kav Yarash newspaper, and Naftali Ze'evi, assistant to Yossi Deitch.

This morning (Wednesday), Communications Minister Gilad Erdan submitted his list of candidates for the new Second Authority Council.

The list of 24 candidates that Erdan forwarded to the Council for Higher Education for consideration includes all current members of the Second Authority Council, with the exception of the Haredi journalist Yossi Elitov - editor of a family newspaper, Dr. Anan Faras Fallah, and Yochi Feller. Dr. Meirav Alush-Lebron, who recently resigned from the council, is not on the list of recommended candidates, as is Ronit Antler, who resigned.

Of the 24 candidates, Erdan is expected to choose 15 candidates.

The previous council ended its term in April, and will continue in office until the new council is appointed.

The Haredim who were placed on the list: public relations man Naftali Zeevi, who also serves as chairman of the 'Eshkolot' - Shmuel Hanavi community administration in Jerusalem and director of the Haredi religious education center in the city, and journalist Yinon Falah - editor of the Kav Ya'ar newspaper. Zeevi, who also serves as an assistant to Yossi Deitch, the deputy mayor of Jerusalem, is the grandson of Rehavam Zeevi. He is apparently the youngest candidate in the history of the Second Authority - only 26 years old. 

Additional candidates: Eva Medziboz, former CEO of Maariv, journalist Emily Amrousi from Israel Hayom, media personality Maira Dolev, producer and director Uri Inbar, songwriter and artistic director Doron Medley, orientalist Dr. Guy Bechor of Bar-Ilan University, Attorney Doreli Almagor, former head of the Broadcasting Regulation Directorate at the Cable Council, Chairman of the Association of Municipal Corporations Yitzhak Borba, Odelia Friedman, CEO of Habima, Zeev Freiman, and representatives of the sectors – Shafik Abed and Suhair Nahas.

The academics proposed for the council include Talia Aina Varon, Professor of Law, Dr. Eilat Baram Tzabri, a communications and science researcher, and Dr. Amit Lavie-Dinur from the Interdisciplinary Center.
