Education Minister Rabbi Shai Piron's plan to introduce the Libiha program into Torah studies in the Haredi sector, AsRevealed this week, provokes sharp reactions in the Haredi dailies.
According to the plan, 6,000 teachers will be trained to teach the Liba studies, high schools will be established that will compete with small yeshivas - where young people will study Liba studies on the way to taking the matriculation exams, and enforcement by the Ministry of Education will be strengthened. According to the publication, approximately 150 million shekels have been allocated specifically for this program.
The headline this morning in the newspaper 'Hamodia' shows the reaction of the Haredi public to Piron's plan: "The Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Education reveal: 'This is how we will destroy Haredi education.'" The newspaper's reporter Avraham Grubeis began, explaining the feeling among the Haredi public about the Ministry of Education's interference in the curriculum. "Shai Piron is making a huge mistake. The Haredi public will stand firm in form and will not compromise in the slightest on the issue of principle and will not agree to change its lifestyle even in the slightest.".
The newspaper Yated Ne'eman also wrote on its front page this morning: "We will not shy away from government threats and temptations under the guise of concern for the Haredi public and its economy." The newspaper also strongly opposes the transfer of millions of shekels to Hesder yeshivas, which, they claim, originates from the Habayit Hayehudi-Yesh Atid dispute.
The newspaper 'Hapeles' also responds on its front page: "A strategic plan to dictate the character of the Haredi public; the renewed attempt to intervene and impose opinions on the Haredi education system will be rejected out of hand.".
