Knesset Committee approves: Presidential coronation ceremony will be brought forward to 26 Tammuz

In a discussion held today (Monday) in the Knesset committee, Knesset Secretary Yardena Meller-Horowitz asked the committee to hold the special meeting "for the declaration of allegiance by the President of the State" on Thursday, 26 Tammuz (July 24) at 6:30 PM.

The Knesset committee approved holding the meeting on the requested date, and the Knesset Secretary explained that the need to bring the meeting forward stemmed from the desire to hold it before Rosh Chodesh Av – the beginning of the nine-day period. The Knesset Secretary also announced that if any Knesset committees are held that day, they will end by 2:00 PM. במהלך הישיבה המיוחדת יצהיר הח"כ ויו"ר הכנסת לשעבר ראובן רובי ריבלין אמונים, ויהפוך לנשיא העשירי של מדינת ישראל. מי שהפנה את תשומת ליבו של הנשיא הנבחר לתאריך הצהרת האמונים הבעייתי היה ח"כ אלי ישי מש"ס, שפנה אל רובי ריבלין וביקש ממנו להקדים את תאריך טקס השבעת הנשיא, שהיה צפוי להתקיים במהלך תשעת הימים – בין ראש חודש אב לט' באב. ח"כ ישי הדגיש בפני ריבלין, כי על פי המסורת היהודית מדובר בימי אבל, וכי לא נהוג לקיים בהם אירועים מסוג זה. ריבלין הודה לח"כ ישי על כי "הסב את תשומת ליבו לדבר", ובעקבות כך הנחה להקדים את הטקס.
