A joint tour of representatives from the Shas and United Torah Judaism factions in the Jerusalem Municipality took place today (Thursday) in the Kiryat Yuval neighborhood. The tour was conducted as part of a joint agreement between Mayor Nir Barkat and his deputy, Zvika Cohen - which was first reported on Haredim10.

According to the understandings reached, during each month, joint discussions will be held between the professional bodies and the municipality representatives, with the aim of promoting agreed-upon solutions regarding the involved neighborhoods.

During the month, several meetings were held on the subject, and conclusions were reached on several levels, the results of which, according to municipal officials, will be seen in the coming months.

The tour that took place today included Deputy Mayor Zvika Cohen, and council members Yitzhak Pindros of United Torah Judaism and Nachmaniel Saban of Shas, who toured the neighborhood known as a source of friction between the different populations.

During the tour, Zvika Cohen, who holds the Haredi education portfolio, sought to closely examine the needs of the Haredi kindergartens in the neighborhood, which are in dire straits and lack a suitable location. This was in order to present the matter to the mayor and the professional echelon and find appropriate solutions.

Haredim10 also learned that as part of the summaries, the plans for the country complex in Ramot will be changed.

As you may recall, non-Haredi residents in the Ramot A neighborhood requested the establishment of a huge 'country club', which would include a swimming pool and sports facilities, and even began taking steps to implement the plan. However, the demographic change, which was reflected in a clear Haredi majority, who opposed the new plan due to modesty issues that might arise, led to a freeze on the proceedings, and the proposal was dropped from the agenda.

Sources familiar with the matter say that the country club complex itself will be relocated from the center of the Ramot A neighborhood to Emek Arazim, across Highway 9, an area located completely outside the neighborhood. Only the pool itself will be built within Ramot, but it will be adapted to the spirit of the residents in the area, which is mostly Haredi.

The Jerusalem Municipality stated: Mayor Nir Barkat continues to hold discussions on the issue with representatives of the various factions in order to reach as broad an agreement as possible.
