The rabbi of Kiryat Arba, Rabbi Dov Lior, published a scathing letter this evening in which he links the onslaught of anti-religious laws to the kidnapping of the three boys.
In the letter addressed to "our brothers, the children of Israel, who love our people and our holy land," the rabbi praises the mutual support that has existed in recent days since the kidnapping of Gil-Ad Shaar, Eyal Yifrach, and Naftali Frankel.
But according to the rabbi, prayer is not enough, and that "in this time of trouble, we must ask what is the cause of this suffering that affects the entire public."".
In his letter, Rabbi Lior accuses the Israeli government and the "severe deterioration in the government's attitude towards the Jewish image of the country" of kidnapping.
According to him, the cause of the suffering that is coming upon the Jewish people is a "legal attack" against religion. "Damage to the structure of the family unit, damage to the conversion procedures according to the Torah, and an attempt to harm the requirement that the convert observe the Torah and commandments, and other laws such as the 2nd. The purpose of this legal attack is to obscure the uniqueness of the Jewish people and make them like all the Gentiles, God willing.".
"כל זאת בנוסף לרצון התמידי להסגרת חבלי ארץ ישראל לידי המחבלים באשליה שנשיג בכך שלום. בודאי שהננו עם שוחר שלום, אך עלינו לזכור את דברי דוד הע"ה 'אני שלום וכי אדבר המה למלחמה'".
"בתקווה שנזכה לראות בקרוב בישועת ה' על עמו ועל נחלתו" חותם הרב ליאור את המכתב.
