Deborah Gonen, the mother of Danny Gonen, who was murdered in a terrorist attack near Dolev in 2015, referred to the High Court of Justice's discussion regarding the demolition of the home of her son's murderer at the conference "People's Rule or High Court of Justice's Rule?" of the Derech Chaim movement.
In a petition filed by left-wing organizations against the demolition of the home of the murderer of Danny Gonen, a heated argument developed between Dvora Gonen and Supreme Court President Miriam Naor.
Referring to that discussion, Gonen said at the conference: "I felt that Danny was murdered and I was confirmed dead. The entire discussion took place on the assumption that the walls and windows of the homes of terrorist families are more important than our sons. The criterion was whether the family knew or not, and they did not address the need to deter the next terrorist.".
Also regarding the family's knowledge, Kabbalah defends the judges' naivety, according to her: "The terrorist who murdered my son, this was his fourteenth attempt to murder a Jew. How can you say that the family didn't know? Of course the family knew, and all the media outlets knew. The mothers of the terrorists go to the media and praise their sons. I am in favor of democracy, but I am not prepared for the notion that a terrorist's right takes precedence over my right as the Jewish people.".
Also speaking at the conference was May Golan, who heads the Hebrew City association, which is fighting the takeover of southern Tel Aviv by infiltrators from Sudan and Eritrea. Golan also spoke about the disconnect she experienced in the High Court hearings on the infiltrators' law.
""How can it be that we are standing in front of them, and Judge Fogelman is talking about how we can take care of the hobbies and relationships of the infiltrators, instead of taking care of the safety of a 70-year-old woman who was murdered, or of a woman who was assaulted for 3 hours. This is the house that is supposed to be responsible for justice, and what is happening there is a terrible injustice," she said.
Golan told about her appeal to the President of the Supreme Court to ask him to tour south Tel Aviv, and the answer she received: "We appealed to President Naor, we suggested that she come for a 20-minute tour with us, to get a feel for what's going on. Her response was 'What the hell,' it's not her honor to come, it's not her honor to see how we're doing, she's not interested in us.".
Golan sees the fight against the High Court's takeover of the agenda as a struggle that should unite the entire public, since what people from different places and hardships have in common is the opaqueness that the High Court conveys towards them.
She also points an accusing finger at Minister Kahlon: "I heard Kahlon express in the media that the High Court protects the weak. I can't understand - the strong are the elderly and the poor in south Tel Aviv? Or maybe bereaved mothers? Or the residents of Amona? This is simply absurd. Kahlon is stalling every step in this all-important struggle. It cannot be that one minister, who just wants to be liked by the media, will jam sticks in the wheels of a struggle that the people of the State of Israel want," Golan added.
The conference 'People's Rule or High Court of Justice Rule?' was held at the 'Hiva' Center in Jerusalem with the participation of Knesset members and public figures.
The conference was held as part of a campaign led by the Derech Haim movement against what it says is the High Court's takeover of the state. Speaking on behalf of the movement at the conference was Attorney Uri Zipori, chairman of the movement's legal cell, who drafted the amendment to the Governance Law promoted by MK Moti Yogev, who explained the need for the law.
