Tragedy: Hanan Shoshani, 54, a member of the Anshi Shalom community in Queens and a great philanthropist who contributed to the world of Torah, was killed yesterday morning in the crash of his private plane.
The deceased, Z"l, took off in his private plane for a business meeting in Long Island. Apparently due to a technical malfunction, the plane lost its balance and crashed into a yard in Long Island, at 9:05 local time, after 15 minutes of flight. Z"l Shoshani was killed on the spot.
The plane narrowly missed the house and crashed into the yard - causing extensive damage. The house, on the other hand, was not damaged, except for a shattered window.
A mother and baby were in the house at the time. One of the family members said: "She heard a loud noise in the yard and ran to the baby's room. It appears he was sleeping during the incident.".
Tanya Bodon, a neighbor who witnessed the incident, said: "There was an explosion. I thought my house was hit and big flames went up.".
The police said: "It's amazing that he flew on this route, and because of that no one else was hurt in all the houses on the street." The circumstances of the accident are under investigation by the aviation director, who has not yet determined the cause of the crash.
The deceased, z"l, is a father of five and grandfather of two grandchildren, a former resident of Tel Aviv, who lived in Queens. His family is working to bring his body for burial in Israel.
His nephew said: "The family is devastated. He was a well-known man in the community, who was always smiling, always had positive energy. He was always ready to help. He was an angel.".
