Recently, a new word has emerged in our world – 'religion'.
Behind it stand the octopus arms of the New Fund and certain media outlets, and their goal is to terrorize school principals and kindergarten teachers so that they do not integrate Jewish content into the education system.
Some claim that this campaign of intimidation is an attempt to create a lot of commotion over nothing, and that in fact there are no processes of strengthening religion within the education system. The truth is more complex. The outcry stems from the correct identification of deep-seated processes taking place in Israeli society, in the direction of strengthening the connection to tradition and the Jewish religion, and those same elements are trying to curb these trends.
Depth trends
In the past, it was common to categorize Israeli Jewish society into secular, religious, and ultra-Orthodox. Over the years, it has become clear that the so-called 'secular' public includes a growing proportion of 'traditionalists.' These are Jews who do not wear a kippah, but many of them observe Shabbat, eat kosher, and respect Jewish values and tradition.
This trend has intensified greatly in recent years. Well-known artists are not ashamed to declare that they do not perform on Shabbat. Many celebrities proudly say in interviews that they put on tefillin, light Shabbat candles, say "Moda Ani" and participate in Torah classes.
This connection to Jewish tradition has become a central feature of Israeli existence.
The education system cannot remain indifferent to this trend, which reflects the spiritual world of the parents of students in public education. All surveys conducted on the subject have shown that parents are demanding that more Jewish values and heritage be taught.
""We are not religious, and we send our children to a state school, but we expect it to be a Jewish school and to instill Jewish values in our children," say the parents.
Here, the connection is created between schools and kindergartens and a number of organizations and associations that specialize in instilling Jewish values in a way that is appropriate for state education. These organizations are very successful and receive compliments from parents and educators for their ability to impart Jewish values in a pleasant and respectful way, and in language that is accessible to all.
All of this is nonsense in the eyes of those radical circles, who see with dismay how Israeli society is changing its face toward closer proximity to Israeli tradition.
These people, who receive assistance from foreign entities and are trying with all their might to reinforce liberal and anti-Jewish worldviews, have launched a campaign of intimidation to deter the public of parents, principals, teachers, and kindergarten teachers.
Empower the majority
These attempts at intimidation have power. Principals, teachers, and kindergarten teachers want peace. Few are willing to confront their principles with violent media and a vociferous minority. In this way, marginal and militant elements are trying to terrorize the large majority, which yearns for more Judaism and more traditional values in state education.
The parent community needs to be aware of this danger and fight back. First, the same tools must be used against the activities of the New Fund associations in the education system. Let them understand that this is a double-edged sword. Whoever starts a war will receive a war. And the main thing – not to be frightened by the shouters. Not to be a silent majority.
Parents need to support the principals, teachers, and kindergarten teachers and make it clear that this is the will of the majority of the Jewish parent community in Israel, and the majority decides, right?
