Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz boarded a special train tonight (Saturday), the night of Lag BaOmer, that departed from Beit Shemesh station and is carrying about 500 passengers to the Rashbi Shrine in Meron. This is a test drive.

Minister Katz was accompanied by the Deputy Mayor of Beit Shemesh, Shmulik Greenberg.

Before boarding the train, the minister said: "This will help, God willing, as early as next year, thousands of people travel to Meron.".

""The train came to implement something new - a ride for the thousands who travel to Meron to travel by train. With God's help, by Rosh Hashanah there will already be a train to Karmiel, and later we are building tracks to Kiryat Shmona, and there will be a station at Junction Sheva - Meron Station.

""The travel time will be two hours, maybe less, it's just a test drive right now.".
