Rabbi Steinman: It is forbidden to marry even those who declare themselves 'neutral''

The Lithuanian conflict: The Grand Rabbi Steinman was asked this week by a member of the Rabbinical Council who showed up at his home in Hazon Ish 5 about a matchmaking proposal they made for one of his children.

The question that bothered the Abrevet was: The woman's family declares itself a 'neutral' family in the conflict that divides the Lithuanian public - is it appropriate to marry her?

The Graal replied to him: There are in the world those who worship idols and those who do not worship idols - should a human being say that I am neutral? I am both a friend of those who worship idols and of those who do not?!

He added: I accept it on behalf of Maran the Grach of Brisk, because at the time when the Haskalah movement was spreading, there were those who did not distance themselves completely from the enlightened ones, and remained their friends. Some of them also had family members who did not want to harm their ties with them - and the end result of all of these was that their children became enlightened ones.
