Confrontation between the Minister of Public Security and the editor of Haaretz newspaper: Minister Gilad Erdan responded on his Twitter account this morning (Monday) to the editorial in the Haaretz newspaper - and made it clear that he will continue in his position, despite the attacks on him by the leftist establishment. "It's pretty clear that this is an organized campaign designed to deter me and the police from enforcing the law," the minister tweeted. "It won't help friends in Haaretz or Ayman Odeh and the Israeli Arab Monitoring Committee." In response, Uri Mark, head of the Haaretz news department, wrote: "No, Gilad. This is a campaign designed to deter you from being a liar and an instigator. And don't call us 'friends from Haaretz.' Neither friends nor a confidant." The Haaretz editorial this morning stated, under the headline "Cannot continue in his position," that "Erdan and Police Commissioner Roni Alsheich have led a vile campaign of incitement in recent days, based entirely on lies and unverified assertions regarding what happened in Umm al-Hiran. "In Erdan's case, this is not the first time he has exploited his position and the police to incite hatred towards Arab citizens, solely to improve his political standing among his party members. Such conduct disqualifies him from continuing to serve in his position.".
