Good news for the ultra-Orthodox singer and actor Shuli Rand: The Jerusalem Magistrate's Court ruled today (Tuesday) that the esteemed singer, who was charged with the offense of negligent damage, will not be convicted of any criminal offenses.
The court hearing comes after an argument that broke out between the singer and his wife about three years ago led to the filing of an indictment against Rand. Judge Dov Pollock adopted the Probation Service's recommendation that Rand, 54, not be convicted, but rather that he be satisfied with the finding that he committed the act attributed to him in the indictment.
According to a report in Walla, the judge ruled that there is no danger that the incident will happen again: "It is not disputed that the defendant did not intend to cause harm to the complainant. The defendant expressed regret for his actions and is currently undergoing treatment, and it is appropriate not to punish him in a way that could harm the continuation of treatment. In light of these circumstances, there is no danger of the incident happening again.".
The representative of the police prosecution, Attorney Aryeh Brand, also said that the offense does not require criminal intent, but is based primarily on carelessness that led to the injuries inflicted on his wife.
The popular singer has been going through a difficult time in recent months after his wife, Batsheva, told the media that her husband had left home due to financial difficulties. Shortly thereafter, both of his parents passed away, five days apart.
Since then, various parties have been trying to help the family, and after an intensive tour of performances, the family members are recovering. A police representative said today that Rand's wife expressed her "blessings and joy" over the arrangement reached as part of attempts at reconciliation between her and Rand.
