The ninth president, 93-year-old Shimon Peres, will have a pacemaker installed today to prevent heart dysfunction • Peres, who returned from a political conference he attended in Italy, is expected to be released from the hospital tomorrow

הנשיא התשיעי של מדינת ישראל, שמעון פרס בן ה-93, יעבור היום (שני) הליך של התקנת קוצב לב. מלשכת פרס נמסר, כי הליך התקנת הקוצב יבוצע עם שובו מכנס מדיני בו השתתף באיטליה, וכי התהליך המדובר תוכנן מראש. אנשיו של הנשיא לשעבר מדגישים: "הפרוצדורה תיערך בהרדמה חלקית בלבד בבית חולים תל השומר ופרס צפוי להשתחרר לביתו כבר מחר (שלישי) בבוקר". עוד מוסרים בלשכת פרס, כי רופאיו של פרס המליצו על התקנת הקוצב, כדי למנוע אירועים של הפרעה בקצב הלב ולתרום בכך להמשך בריאותו ולתפקודו המלא של מר פרס.
