Are you the best brother? A stern statement by Minister of Social Affairs Meir Cohen from Mish Atid: During his visit to Beit Shean, the minister said that he does not need to worry about those who do not send their children to the army.

The remarks were made during a discussion in the Beit Shean municipality, during which the issue of budgeting for a club for Haredi children came up. The city's welfare portfolio holder, Deputy Mayor Pinchas Badosh, chairman of the United Haredi List in Beit Shean, said that he felt uncomfortable with the atmosphere that exists against the Haredi, and their exclusion from the budgets.

In response, the minister responsible for the welfare of all Israeli children said that anyone who does not serve in the army "is not my brother.".

""My father raised us all and educated us to serve in the army," he said. "I don't have to worry about someone who doesn't send their children to the army. He's not my brother.".

When one of the social workers commented that these were budgets for children who were not eligible for conscription, and who were not supposed to be to blame for their father's decision not to enlist in the army, Cohen said that since these parents were not educating their children for service in the IDF, he didn't have to worry about them either.

Badosh attacked Meir Cohen: "Don't you recognize your brother who didn't serve in the IDF? Enough of this ugly patronage.".

But Cohen repeated his words, claiming that Yesh Atid put an end to "ultra-Orthodox extortion" and stopped the funds that went to the Haredim instead of to children in boarding schools.

Deputy Mayor Pinchas Badosh told Haredim10 that throughout the visit, Meir Cohen seemed to be very preoccupied with the Haredi issue. "The feeling is that of the wealthy man who came to save the poor Haredim from themselves. After this discussion, I felt restless and left the lunch that was held.".

We requested a response from Minister Meir Cohen, but it has not yet been received.
