At the Likud ministers' meeting, they were laughing at Shimon Peres' expense.

At a Likud ministerial meeting held this morning (Sunday), ministers joked about the ninth president, Shimon Peres. This was after Yedioth Ahronoth reported that he had rejected an offer to join Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's visit to Africa, claiming that he "has no interest in participating in the ostentatious festival.". ""All my neighbors heard the burst of laughter when I read the response from the Peres Bureau," said Science Minister Ofir Akunis. "Peres did not want to participate in an ostentatious event, this is huge.". Transportation Minister Israel Katz quipped that Peres "refuses to participate in an ostentatious conference that he did not organize.". According to the Walla website report, one of those present testified that "Netanyahu couldn't help himself and burst out laughing too.". Those around Peres, by the way, denied the quote this morning and said that this was not the reason for Peres' absence from the trip. The Prime Minister will depart tomorrow for a visit to Africa, culminating in a state ceremony marking the 40th anniversary of Operation Jonathan at the old Entebbe International Airport. This is one of the most complex visits ever made by an Israeli Prime Minister abroad. In addition to a passenger plane chartered by the Prime Minister's Office for Netanyahu and his entourage, an Air Force Ram plane will bring to the ceremony in Entebbe representatives of IDF units that participated in the Entebbe operation 40 years ago, Hercules aircraft that fly to Africa the heavy security equipment that will accompany the visit, a mobile hospital that will be donated at the end of the trip, and a delegation of businessmen accompanying the visit. "מדובר בביקור היסטורי של ראש ממשלה ישראלי באפריקה מזה עשרות שנים, שיחזק את הקשרים המדיניים, כלכליים וביטחוניים עם מדינות רבות ביבשת אפריקה", נאמר בהודעה.
