Thousands are attending the funeral of Rebbetzin Yael Cohen, wife of the president of the Shas Council of Torah Sages, Rabbi Cohen, who died this morning at Mayanei Hayeshua Hospital after a serious illness, at the age of 78.
The funeral will leave the Porat Yosef Yeshiva in the Geula neighborhood of Jerusalem, on its way to the Sanhedria Cemetery, where she will be buried. Due to the intense heat and to prevent the Torah from being canceled, the only eulogists at the funeral will be her husband, Chacham Shalom Cohen, the brothers: Gaon Rabbi Shlomo ben Shimon and Gaon Rabbi Masoud ben Shimon, a member of the Council of Torah Sages Gaon Rabbi Shimon in Adani, Gaon Rabbi Moshe Tzedakah, Gaon Rabbi Shmuel Bezalel, and his eldest son. In preparation for the funeral, the police issued instructions to the public attending: • Obey the instructions of the police and ushers. These instructions are intended to protect your lives. • Stay away from fenced areas. • Under no circumstances is it permissible to climb/hang on a moving vehicle, including emergency and rescue vehicles. • Do not climb on fences, buildings, traffic signs, bus stops, and electricity poles. • There is a complete prohibition on climbing on the roofs of buildings – the police will respond with zero tolerance to these acts. • Stay away from the vehicle carrying the deceased and do not crowd due to the danger to life. • Drink plenty of fluids due to the intense heat prevailing in the area. Traffic police officers are prepared to close the following streets starting at 1:00 PM: Malkei Yisrael St. from Shrei Yisrael to Kikar Hashabbat. Brandes-Yirmiyahu St. from Shrei Yisrael to Bar Ilan. Bar Ilan St. - Sanhedria Intersection - Levi Eshkol - Shmuel Hanevi. Traffic will be diverted to alternative routes.
