Minister of Economy and Chairman of the Jewish Home, Minister Naftali Bennett, visited on Monday the Katif Center for Commemorating the Heritage of Gush Katif and Northern Samaria, which operates in the settlement of Nitzan.
Before his visit, Bennett met with the management of the Gush Katif Settlers' Committee, with whom he discussed various issues related to the rehabilitation of the people of Gush Katif and the communities.
During the tour of the center, Bennett experienced the "Israeli Chain" demonstration that was held at the time with the intention of preventing the displacement from Gush Katif, and declared that the referendum law was passed in the Knesset precisely because of what happened in Gush Katif - at that time the people wanted one thing and the government wanted another.
Bennett added that the events in Gush Katif 'connect' him to the heavy pressure exerted by the US against the backdrop of the political negotiations. "Your personal story, former residents of Gush Katif, inspires me for the political process that we are facing these days.".
Ironically, Bennett 'forgot' to mention that the referendum law deals with localities located within the Green Line, so even if the law had been valid in 2005, it could not have helped the residents of Gush Katif at all at that time.
