Interior Minister Aryeh Deri decided yesterday (Sunday) to cancel the entrance fees to all beaches that bathers have been required to pay to enter. These are ten beaches across the country, which currently require a fee to enter - thus allowing free entry to all beaches in Israel. The local authorities that have charged a fee for entry to the beaches to date will be compensated with approximately 7 million shekels for their losses, thus allowing free bathing for all Israeli citizens. At this stage, the budget will finance free entry to the beaches only this summer. However, Interior Minister Deri intends to finance free entry to the beaches during the following summer seasons as well. "The decision will assist in the struggle to lower the cost of living and reduce disparities," the minister explained the move. "People will enjoy the natural resource for free this summer and will be able to enter the beaches and enjoy bathing in the sea and the facilities on the beaches. The decision will allow every citizen, rich or poor, to bathe in the sea for free and enjoy Israel's natural resources without unnecessary expenses.".
