Apple has registered a new patent, which the former CEO, Steve Jobs, might have opposed: With the new patent, we will be able to implement conversation windows with transparent backgrounds in the iOS mobile operating system. This means, in effect, that we will be able to watch what is happening in front of us while typing text or viewing content on iPhones and iPads.

“Transparent background” is described in the patent filings as the output of the main camera on the back of the device, on which the iMessage app’s chat bubbles will be placed. When activating the function, the user will be given the option to choose the level of transparency of the background itself, as well as of the text bubbles that float on it. The transparent background can be activated automatically upon entering the Messages app, or manually whenever it is needed.

Although primarily focused on text messaging, the patent extends the transparent background option to other applications such as web browsers and e-readers. The patent does not require the use of special hardware, but according to the Apple Insider website, the company is currently examining how it can be enabled on existing devices.

It's still too early to know if we'll see the transparent background feature in the iOS 8 operating system, which will be revealed in June, but if you really can't wait, you can make do with the Type n Walk app (also on Android) in the meantime.
