Microsoft's Office suite was recently available free of charge in the Google and Apple app stores, but in order to use it, users had to subscribe to the company's cloud-based services - Office 365.

Now, Microsoft is eliminating the requirement to register for these services, allowing all Android and iOS smartphone users to view and edit documents using the Office suite on their mobile devices.

The Office app for Android and iOS-based smartphones allows its users to read, edit, or create unlimited Word (text) and Excel (spreadsheet) files, and during the announcement event held last week, the company's new CEO, Satya Nadella, said that the company is committed to providing support for the company's cloud services for all platforms.

The announcement for Android and iOS smartphone users came a few days ago, along with the introduction of a customized version of Office for Apple's iPads. Apparently, Office apps dominate the top apps chart on the iPad.
