After lobbying: The Israel Police confirmed that a group of worshippers - a group of scholars from the elders of Jerusalem - will attend the memorial service of the Rebbe, Rabbi Shlomke of Zewheal, on the Mount of Olives on the day of Hilula, 26 Iyar.
The police responded to pressure to allow the minyan to be held, after it was learned in recent days that due to the Pope's visit to Jerusalem, security officials would not allow the annual mass pilgrimage to his shrine, located not far from the compound where the guest will be hosted. The announcement stunned the thousands of Jews who make the pilgrimage to the holy site every year, some of whom are close to 50 since the Six-Day War, who for the first time will not be able to reach the shrine on the day of the feast.
In light of this, public figures and officials of Zvihil institutions worked to authorize only praying members of the minyan to ascend to Zion on the day of the Hilulah. The members of the special minyan will pray and mention name after name in privacy and moderation, and will 'remind' the righteous one of his sacred promise to stand at the right hand of all who assist his institutions and to recommend honesty to each and every one.
Meanwhile, it was decided, after coordination with the security forces, that this year the mass aliyah will take place on Tuesday, Iyar 27, the day after the Day of the Feast of the Immigrants. The Jerusalem Municipality announced the completion of the preparation of the infrastructure at the site to absorb the immigrants to Zion, and has placed toilet facilities and water fountains on the site for the welfare of the worshipers. The Israel Police and security forces will increase patrols throughout the area and along the route to Zion throughout the Day of the Feast of the Immigrants, to ensure the peace of the immigrants.
In light of the experience of recent years, immigrants to Zion are urged to prefer public transportation, when, as every year, on Tuesday, Egged will operate a special organized transportation service to the Mount of Olives, during all afternoon hours, via Egged line No. 51, at the cost of a regular city trip or a free monthly pass. The buses will depart every 10 minutes - starting at 1:00 PM until 7:00 PM, on the regular route: from Yirmiyahu Street under the bridge, Efrion Junction, Bar Ilan Corner Rabbanu Gershom, Shmuel Hanevi along the Line 3 stations to Zvahil Square. Return buses will depart from the Mount of Olives from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
