Blue in your wallet: The Bank of Israel has published for the first time the blue-colored prints of the new 200-shekel banknote.
The note will feature the portrait of the poet of the War of Independence, Natan Alterman, and from its inception it will enter the bank's circulation. The bank will publish an announcement regarding the exact date of the note's introduction into circulation in the coming days.
The new banknote joins the previous banknote in the new series in the amount of 50 shekels, which bears the portrait of Shaul Tchernichovsky.
The width of the note will be the same as the 50-shekel note, but its length will be slightly different. This is to make it easier for the blind and visually impaired public to distinguish between the two different notes. Similar to the first note in the new series, the additional note also carries many more advanced security features against counterfeiting than those of the notes in the existing series.
The Bank of Israel explains that the new banknotes are designed to combat the relentless rise in the sophistication of counterfeiting around the world. The new 200-shekel note has already been signed by Bank of Israel Governor Karnit Flug and bears the date 2015.
