NASA scientists revealed in recent days that three weeks ago, the Earth faced an encounter with a large asteroid, which eerily resembles a human skull.
The asteroid, it turns out, passed within a distance of only 300,000 kilometers of Earth, a hand's reach in astronomical terms.
NASA hopes that their satellites have managed to capture images of the asteroid.
Meyer Kelly, a senior scientist at NASA, explained that the importance of the information is not only in terms of the immediate deflection of an asteroid of this type from Earth, but also in terms of its structure and texture, for dealing with a similar asteroid the next time.
""We know very little about asteroids," he said, "whether they are perforated like Swiss cheese, or are they more solid. The next time a large asteroid moves towards Earth, we will be able to know more with the data that will come to us in the coming days, how we can deflect it.".
