Vegetables soared again: A kilo of cucumbers sold at the wholesale market for 10 NIS

Vegetable prices continue to soar: הבוקר (חמישי) נמכר המלפפון בשוק הסיטונאי ב-10 שקלים לק"ג, לעומת 8 שקלים אתמול, כאשר בחודש האחרון השלים מחיר המלפפון זינוק של 156%. לפי 'גלובס', גם מחיר הפלפל זינק בתוך יממה ב-15% למחיר סיטונאי של 11.5-12 שקל לק"ג, כאשר בחודש האחרון השלים הפלפל זינוק של 50% במחיר. הקישואים השלימו היום זינוק של 100% במחיר בחודש האחרון, ורק ביממה האחרונה עלה מחירם ב-10% נוספים. מחיר העגבניות נותר היום יציב (8-8.4 שקלים לק"ג), אך רק לפני חודש נמכרו העגבניות ב-2.8-3.2 שקלים לק"ג, כך שמדובר בזינוק של 162%-185% במחיר בתוך חודש. Roni Mizrahi, a vegetable wholesaler at the Jerusalem wholesale market, told Globes: "At 4:30 this morning, cucumbers could no longer be found at the wholesale market. The goods were gone. The peppers ran out at 5:00 in the morning. I estimate that tomorrow the picture will be similar. Really unattractive tomatoes are sold during the day at the wholesale market for 5-6 shekels per kilogram, while the price of beautiful tomatoes does not drop below 8.5 shekels per kilogram when there is not much merchandise.".  Farmers, vegetable marketing companies and retailers are criticizing the government for not taking steps to prevent price gouging. The companies and marketing chains claim that the Ministry of Agriculture was negligent and did not open the market to vegetable imports in a timely manner.
