The struggle over David's Tomb: Today a large rally will be held at the complex, in protest of the intention to hand over the 'Last Supper' room located above the tomb to the Vatican. More precisely, it is about Christians being able to use the place at least 70 times a year, for ceremonies. The rally will be headed by the Gaon Rabbi Simcha HaCohen Kook, rabbi of Rehovot and one of the people of David's Tomb, and thousands of Jews are expected to participate.

But it turns out that there are those who think differently. In an email sent by Jerusalem council member Laura Wharton of Meretz, she claims: "This is not about 'giving away parts of David's tomb.' This is about the place where Christians believe Jesus ate at the Last Supper (as Christians in the 11th century claimed). David did not found the city, but rather conquered it from the Jebusites and expanded it. See the story in 2 Samuel 5:6-10, and 1 Chronicles 11:4-9." Wharton concludes: "Anyone who has Jesus close to their hearts is welcome to come and take a look. In Jewish tradition, the place has no importance. Those who are bored are welcome to volunteer to help others.".

In response, Council member Nachmaniel Saban of the Shas party claimed that Wharton is a "provocateur" who seeks to please the entire world, except the Jews. Saban even said: "If I had any doubts about whether I would participate in the rally, you have dispelled my doubts! I will participate proudly as a Jew and a Jerusalemite.".

Another council member, Michael Malchieli, responded cynically that the movement for the Jebusites was backing Wharton. Malchieli added that the Jebusites also captured Jerusalem.

Council member Aryeh King, one of the organizers of the rally, wrote that Monday is "Jerusalem Day," and on that day the mourners chose to sing from the pulpit the psalm, "Beautiful is the view from the south, the whole land, Mount Zion, the northern rear of Kiryat Melech Rab.".
