The photo that excited social media: The photo of police officer Nick Strack from Colorado City, who was filmed holding a two-year-old toddler whose family was involved in a fatal car accident, went viral worldwide.
The policeman is seen in the picture trying to comfort the girl and distract her from what was happening behind her - where police were trying to rescue the family members - and her father, who was killed.
""When children are involved in an accident, you get a pit in your stomach," Strack said. "The first thing you do when you arrive at the scene is try to comfort, and if there are children, of course we turn to them. I know from my daughter that what's important is attention, that someone is listening.".
""It's the same for adults, but with children it's on a completely different level, they cling to you.
""I remember when I was holding her she grabbed the back of my arm, which is something my daughter does.".
""There's nothing worse than seeing children suffer. I have a two-year-old girl too, and she's my oldest daughter," Strack said. "The first thought is, 'This could have been your child.' I'm not a doctor, but I know how to give someone a hug, and any of the other officers on the scene would have done the same thing.".
SetREk tearfully recounted that he tried to sing the girl a lullaby.
In the serious accident, the father of the family was killed, and the mother and four of their children were injured.
