Baruch Dayan, the truth is: In Petah Tikva, a man from Meron, Avraham Shefer, passed away at the age of 84.
The deceased, z”l, was born in Tiberias to his parents, Chaim and Gitel Sheffer, z”l. Since he was three years old, he has gone to Meron every year on Lag BaOmer and on the 7th of Adar - to the graves of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai and Rabbi Yochanan the Shoemaker.
He lived in the Gilo neighborhood of Jerusalem, but in recent years he moved to a nursing home in Petah Tikva. Despite his frailty, he also went to Meron for the last Lag BaOmer, where he used to organize and hold - for over a decade - a 'Komzitz' of dancing and klezmer music near the grave of Rabbi Yochanan the Shoemaker. Every year, at four in the morning, he would loudly proclaim: "In honor of Rabbi Yochanan the Shoemaker" - and join in the dancing and joy.
In recent years, he devotedly reached Zion, using a walking stick - and hundreds of singers, equipped with all types of musical instruments, would gather around him.
He left behind his wife Chaya Tahi, born in Safed, his brothers Eliezer and Israel Shefer, and his sister Leah, two sons and two daughters.
His son, who lives in the United States, is making his way to Israel to attend the funeral.
His funeral will take place tomorrow at 12:00 noon, from the Segula Cemetery in Petah Tikva.
