Interesting exchange of letters between the Israeli Consumer Council and Unilever Israel.

This was the appeal of the Israeli Consumer Council:

""The Israeli Consumer Council recently received several consumer complaints regarding Din Extra fabric softener in a 960 ml package.

According to the complaints, there is concern about deception regarding the contents of the conditioner, even though consumers naively believed that it was a 1 liter package, the contents of the package are only 960 ml.

After examining several different fabric softener packages from the Bedin brand and other companies, it appears that the cause of the error may be the number "1" indicated in bold on the lower right side of the product.

According to what is written on the packaging, this indicates that the size of the cap has been changed, but the location and style are remarkably similar to the packaging contents marking on other Bedin products, such as the 4-liter package or similar products from other companies (see image).

שיווק, צרכנות

The Consumer Law provision... states that 'a trader shall not do anything - by act or omission, in writing or orally or in any other way, including after the date of entering into the transaction - that may mislead a consumer in any material matter in the transaction.'.

Therefore, when consumers report an actual error, concern arises that the conditions that constitute the above violation have been met.

"We are convinced that you did not intend to deliberately mislead the consumer public, and therefore, since consumers were actually misled, we are convinced that you will change the packaging label in order to prevent further confusion.".

The company's response was provided in a letter: "Thank you for contacting our company regarding the labeling of Badin Extra packaging.".

According to Shirley Campbell-Kaufman, the company's consumer service manager, the company "puts the quality of its products and the enjoyment of its customers at the top of its priorities," practices "complete transparency and fairness with consumers," and works to ensure "that these important values are maintained.".

After the introduction, a specific reference to the complaint. "In your request, you refer to the marking "Small 1 Cap" on the product packaging.".

The letter expresses gratitude for drawing attention to the issue, and adds: "The inscription 'one small cap' explicitly indicates the amount of fabric softener required for each wash, in accordance with the instructions for use. The product contents are clearly indicated on the packaging.".

However, the issue will be re-examined.
