Miracle in Australia: An 11-year-old autistic boy has been found safe and sound after being missing in the woods for four days, Yahoo News reports.
Luke Shambrook and his family were camping in a national park in the state of Victoria last weekend. But on Friday, Luke disappeared, and the worried family contacted police for help.
More than 120 rescuers were involved in the rescue operation, which was complex given the fact that the child was autistic. The parents explained to the police that it was likely that the child did not even realize that he was lost, and might not even respond to the rescuers' voices.
The parents also told police that Luke likes to hide in strange places and is drawn to water, which prompted local divers to search the nearby lake as well.
Four days later, one of the searchers from the police helicopter spotted a slight movement on the ground: "I noticed a tiny movement out of the corner of my eye and that was enough to make me ask the pilot to come back to that spot," said Sergeant Brad Pascoe. "I asked the guys who were with me in the helicopter to focus the camera on the body that was captured, and to our great joy it turned out that it was indeed Luke.".
Shortly before, Luke's hat was found, not far from where he was found, which increased hope that the boy was alive.
The child was treated by paramedics and taken to the hospital suffering from dehydration and hypothermia, but is in good condition overall.
""We had a true miracle, and a reward for the many hours of searching," said local police chief Rick Nugent.
